THE MARTIN HOUSE: ROCK BOTTOM

Last night I documented what I think officially can be called Rock Bottom on this project with my iPhone.  We have officially torn everything out of the house that needed to go away and today the additive process swings into full gear, very exciting!

The kitchen has been completely stripped of everything, electrical, plumbing, the works and these photos show the carcass of the space left behind.  Today those bare walls will be covered up, new plumbing was run last week and the electricians are running all the new electrical as I type this.

I had intended to keep the sink all along, and a good thing too as we discovered this week it is cemented into the floor!  This shot shows the new drain system which was installed last week (all the white pipes) and the new water line running into the house (the blue pipe) and the hot water return which will feed the sink, dishwasher and washing machine (the red pipe).

Looking past the bathub is the bar fireplace.  This chimney is going to be clad in a layer of salvaged brick in the coming weeks to make it more structurally sound and code compliant to be able to burn wood in again.  This entire room used to painted the dark burgandy color seen to either side of the fireplace...I can't wait for the day that we cover those sins from the past up!

The future dining room is currently serving as the store room for the many boxes of furniture, fixtures and equipment that are arriving daily.  Every box is inspected upon arrival and then clearly labeled to make unpacking later very easy.  The "Now Serving Brunch" sign was found in the root cellar and is going to be incorporated into the final design of the house.

And finally a artful shot with a bit of irony in it...

Stay tuned as the next few weeks promise to bring some dramatic transformations as The Martin House starts to take shape into its future self!
