THE MARTIN HOUSE: An Artful Tall Clock

Even though it will be many weeks before furniture starts to be placed around the house, I have been busy sourcing many unique and fabulous pieces for the various room in The Martin House.  One of the most exciting finds thus far has been this beautiful tall clock that has a fascinating history:

The clock was made by local Provincetown artist Jim Manning, who speciliazes in works made from found or salvaged wood.  This particular clock was made from the chart table salvaged from the schooner ship "Hindu".  The Hindu has been a Provincetown legend for over 60 years, it was completely restored a number of years back and they literally threw the chart table away, lucky for us Jim snagged it from the trash and fashioned this beautiful piece.  The clock's propotions of being very tall (7 feet!) and very skinny are what atttracted me, as did the incredible hand painted clock face.

This will be an interesting addition to The Martin House, and one great piece of Provincetown history to compliment another.

The Hindu is unfortunately not in PTown this summer as its owners ran into some financial trouble as reported by the Cape Cod Times last week however we all hope it will return the harbour soon!
